This building was built in 1025 AH in the Indian city of Agra.

The Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World

The construction of this building dates back to the Gurkanian (Timurid) era of India.

During the reign of the Gurkhanids in India, the Gurkhanids of Iran had disappeared and the Safavid dynasty had come to power.

Although the Gurkhanids were descendants of Genghis Khan the Mongol, Persian was the official language in the Indian Gurkhanid court, and Iranian culture had considerable influence in this court.

For that reason, the architecture of The Taj Mahal is completely Iranian.

The Taj Mahal was built by the order of Shah Jahan to commemorate his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631.

She asked her husband not to remarry after her death and to build tombs for her.

After the death of his wife, the king decided to immortalize his wife by building a beautiful and huge building.

So he built a beautiful tomb along the Jamuna River. He also planned to build a tomb for himself on the other side of the Jamuna River and bind the two buildings with a bridge as a sign of a permanent bond between him and his wife.

The king wanted his tomb to be made of black marble, unlike the façade of the white marble Taj Mahal, but this tomb was never built.

The Taj Mahal is part of a new list of the Seven Wonders of the World and has been polled to select the Seven Wonders of the World from more than 60 million people worldwide.

It was built in Agra (the capital of India at the time). Ahmad Lahori and his brother, Professor Hamid Lahori, were the Iranian architects who built The Taj Mahal.

This large building is located in a vast 18-hectare garden, in the center of which there is a long stream that is made in the style of Persian gardens.

Inside the tomb or the gate of The Taj Mahal (one of the seven new wonders of the world in UNESCO), there is the tomb of Shah Jahan and Arjumand Bano, which is decorated by solid marble, and next to the tombstone on the right is engraved inscriptions in the common Persian script of the Safavid period.

History of The Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal was built by the order of Shah Jahan, one of the great Mongol emperors of the Tamerlane dynasty, in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.

In this turbulent time, it is a little difficult to believe such strong emotions that lead to 17 years of marriage and 13 children, and such fidelity.

But this is a fact. All the myths and legends about the king’s love for his wife speak for one truth: when the two first meet, the king’s world becomes so fascinated and privileged that from that moment on he does not pay any attention to his other wives afterward.

But Mumtaz Mahal died in 1631 during the birth of his fourteenth child.

Upon hearing that news, the king gave up all his struggles, returned home, and spent the rest of his life building a private tomb for his wife.

The architecture of the Taj Mahal building and its surroundings The Taj Mahal mausoleum is built in two rows.

The first row is 374 by 141 and the second is 120 by 120 cubits. The mausoleum building was designed and built with the design of eight heavens.

Eight Heavens is the name of an architectural plan according to which there is usually a central space in the middle of the building plan, often dome-shaped, through which four symmetrical axes pass.

On the east and west sides of the mausoleum, two buildings are built the same symmetrically.

The building on the west side of the mansion is a mosque that consists of three domes and three porches.

On the eastern front of the mausoleum, a building similar to the mosque has been built, which is the guest house of the complex.

The only difference between the building and the mosque is that it does not have an altar.

At the top of The Taj Mahal mansion is a pear-shaped dome with two shells. The height of the main dome of the plate is more than 50 meters.

On the four sides of the main dome, there are four arches with a small dome.

The presence of four small domes on the four sides of the main dome is a tradition and method that can be seen in the tomb of Amir Ismail Samani in Bukhara.

Therefore, this feature can be considered as a feature of Iranian architecture.

There are four minarets at the four corners of the mausoleum.

This feature should be attributed to Gurkhani architecture.

The construction of four minarets at the four corners of a mansion became common in the Timurid period, and in the Gurkhani period, and especially in The Taj Mahal, they were built independently of the building, in the four corners of the plateau.

The presence of four minarets at the corners of the plateau has created a visual-psychological space in which the mausoleum is of special importance because, in addition to its unique and privileged volumetric features, the entire surface is covered by white marble.

While the surface of the first floor as well as the guest house and the mosque located on both sides of it are covered by red stone.
