Market reconstruction

CPN predicts that the opening of the luxury Siam Paragon in 2003 will lead to extensive site remodeling and development. CPN was renamed the World Trade Center to Central World Plaza. The main building of the shopping center was 300,000 square meters. Then development plans increased it to 430,000 square meters.

Then, although not yet completed, CPN officially inaugurated the renovated complex on July 21, 2006. According to forecasts, the project was expected to be completed by October 2006. Then at that time CPN changed its name to Central world. The mall was fully opened in May 2007, but some upstairs areas remained empty after opening.

The hotel’s exterior building was in the northwest corner of the mall, and its sub-floors extended to the ZEN department store in the southeast corner.

The purpose of opening this renovated complex was to attract 150,000 customers per day and spend more than 7 billion baht annually. The complex introduced itself as a middle-class shopping mall in front of the upstairs market of Siam Paragon.

Numerous reasons, including political turmoil and the ongoing recession, prevented CentralWorld from achieving its goal of daily traffic. Although reliable figures are not available, the number of buyers soon increased. Major celebrations, including the Bangkok New Year Countdown, were held in front of Central World, which later became a tradition and the number of people increased each year.
