A tourist is someone who travels for fun and entertainment, regardless of curiosity.
Well it is the simple definition of tourist. Let’s go into it and have a basic one.
According to the international definition, \”tourist\” is a person who travels to another country for leisure, sightseeing, treatment, business, sports and pilgrimage; provided that his stay is not less than 24 hours and not more than 6 months and in Do not run less than 70 km.
We have many different divisions in the field of tourism. But what we want to talk about here are the types of international tourism.
International tourism is divided into two types:
1. Inbound Tourism
Inbound tourism refers to travel to a country other than your own country. Inbound tourism is dependent on climatic conditions and is seasonal.
As you know, some countries, such as Spain and Maldives, are dependent on inbound tourism. This means people around the world who are interested in traveling wants to go and see countries like Spain. Inbound tourism has advantages and disadvantages.
It means that it totally relay on situation. So it is definitely a big risk for countries whose economies depend on inbound tourism. For example, the conditions created by the corona virus had a negative impact on tourism. So, these countries have definitely faced economic problems.
In bounds tourism is not like domestic tourism, in domestic tourism people spend their weekends holiday but in inbound tourism when people travel to another country they spend their annual holiday.
Attracting tourism around the world will help the host to have diversity income. Absolutely inbound tourism helps the economy of the host country a lot.
One of the major disadvantages of inbound tourism is that if airlines decide not to serve a particular region, the countries in that region will run into trouble. Inbound tourism can also cause cultural problems. Each country has its own culture.
In some country their culture is combining with religion like Islamic countries. Also some country has their specific culture. All these should be respected by inbound tourism and if not they may seem that tourists are insult the host country or they offended of the host country.
By the way many of countries are making money through the inbound tourism; it means that they accepted all of its risks and opportunities.
2. Outbound Tourism
Outbound tourism is somehow different from inbound tourism. Outbound tourism can be domestic or international.
In inbound tourism, people enter the destination countries to spend their annual holidays, but in outbound tourism, people leave their country or their province and stay in the destination country or province for at least one year. There are different definitions for out bound tourism. For example the definition offered by European Union for outbound tourism is: ‘Visits by residents of a country outside that country’.
Competition in today’s world of tourism has created good low cost opportunities for outbound tourism. Especially in airline services that they try to attract outbound tourism with their great offers. Nowadays people have more leisure time to spend on international tourism.
There are also countries that are developing their tourism resources to attract outbound tourism. But their economy should not be dependent on outbound tourism due to unexpected events like corona virus in 2020. This factor can be disadvantage of international tourism for those countries which their economy is focused on it.
The money earned through outbound tourism helps destination countries such as European countries to invest it in their target centers.
The bottom line
According to the World Tourism Organization, 70% of the reasons for international travel are vacation use. The remaining 14% and 16% business trips include religious pilgrimages, visiting friends and relatives; sports, etc. Well people prefer to spend their leisure time in new places to have different experience so countries are tried to attract these potential tourists.
