1. Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, Hengdian

The world’s biggest and best aquarium in the world. Chimelong Ocean Kingdom’s Whale Shark Expo Aquarium (珠海 长 隆), located inside the vast “Chimelong International Ocean Resort” amusement park in Hengdian (China), is the largest and best aquarium in the world. There are no less than five whale sharks and countless other species such as rays, corals, and sharks.

The Chimelong Ocean Kingdom set a Guinness World Record for having the most significant underwater viewing dome and the largest aquarium in the world. A giant sixty-three-meter tall statue of a blue whale shark looms over the world’s largest aquarium, making it a remarkable attraction from the outside.

The award for the giant tank in the world was given to this aquarium for its record volume of 22.7 million liters, including the main tank (while the Georgia Aquarium’s 24 million liters capacity includes the main tank, the outer tank, rear, filter, and duct).

The beautiful aquarium can be reached from Macau by bus or taxi in approx. Thirty minutes or from Hong Kong in ca. 2 o’clock.

2. Georgia Aquarium, Atlanta

Without a doubt the most significant and best aquarium in the world and the United States and the only aquarium outside of Asia with whale sharks

The Georgia Aquarium, located in Atlanta (United States), is the largest in the western part of the world.

Outside of Asia, this aquarium is the only institution with whale sharks. In addition to the latter, notable specimens in the aquarium include beluga whales, bottlenose dolphins, and manta rays.

The animals are on display in five galleries: Tropical Divers, Ocean Travelers, Cold Water Missions, River Scouts, and Dolphin Tales. Each gallery corresponds to a specific environment. A massive $250 million grant from American businessman Bernard “Bernie” Marcus helped launch the Aquarium, which opened in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, in 2005.

3. SEA Aquarium, Singapore

The aquarium (Aquarium of Southeast Asia) on Sentosa Island, Singapore, has the most extensive collection of rays globally, including the only giant manta rays in the ocean in captivity. It was the largest aquarium globally by total water volume until 2014 when the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom surpassed it.

Comprising forty-nine different habitats, the aquarium takes visitors on an underwater journey in Southeast Asia and continues across the Persian Gulf and ocean. The Aquarium’s centerpiece is the Open Ocean Tank with over 18,000,000 L (4,000,000 imp gal; 4,800,000 US gal) and 50,000 animals.

This shark has over two hundred species of predators, including endangered species such as the hammerhead shark and the aggressive silver head.

4. Churaumi Aquarium, Motobu

Many are considered the most significant and best aquariums in Japan and the greatest aquarium in the world.

Churaumi Aquarium (沖) is part of Ocean Expo Park located in Motobu, on the island of Okinawa. It is considered the best aquarium in Japan. It was the largest aquarium in the world until the Georgia Aquarium was built in 2005.

The Main Reservoir (Kuroshio) is home to whale sharks (currently two) and manta rays, and many fish species.

After Kuroshio Reservoir, several other exciting reservoirs and exhibits, including an area dedicated to tiger sharks and bulldog sharks.

Another imposing area is Okinawa’s ultra-deepwater marine life, which displays various bioluminescent fish species.

5. Cube Oceanarium, Chengdu, A great aquarium in the world

The newest giant aquarium displays the most extensive panel in the world

Cube Oceanarium (浩海) opened in 2015 and is located in the city Chengdu of China inside the world’s largest independent building, the New Century Global Center (新 世纪 环球 中心). This is the latest entry in our list of the top ten aquariums in the world.

It is specifically located inside the Seaside City Mall and is home to more than 33,000 sea creatures, including the world’s giant jellyfish. The main pool is home to two relatively small whale sharks and many other fish species. The

Cube Oceanarium currently holds two Guinness World Records: one for the largest acrylic window in the world and one for the largest aquarium window in the world (39.65m wide and 8.3m from above).

It features exhibits on hot and cold waters, from the Pacific Ocean to tropical seas along the Amazon to the Arctic. The main reservoir holds over ten million liters, and over ten thousand species of navies around the world.

6. Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, Osaka

An architectural masterpiece containing whale sharks

Designed by famous American architect Peter Chermayeff, the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan (海) is very elegant from the outside.

It is home to a whale shark and many other species, including otters, sea lions, penguins, dolphins, rays, and jellyfish.

Completed in 1990, this is one of the oldest aquariums on our list. Typical for this era, the panel size is not as large as in recent aquariums.

Visitors enter the eighth floor and descend in a spiral around a large central basin. Some tanks extend over several floors so you can observe the animals from different angles.

Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is a five-minute walk from Osakako Station on the Chūō Line of the Osaka City Metro and next to the Tempozan Ferris Wheel.

Marine Biology and Aquarium (NMMBA) is located in the Taiwan city near Taiwan Kent (Checheng, Pingtung County). The museum owns three major Taiwan exhibitions, the coral flag and the sea flag of the world.

Coral Kingdom Pavilion welcomes underwater removal trails, one of the enormous underwater tunnels in Asia.
